Registrar will manage incoming/outgoing shipments for general gallery operations and be responsible for collections inventory, storage, and database management for all artworks under supervision of Chief Registrar. Attention to detail, flexibility and pro-active work ethic is crucial for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and manage incoming and outgoing shipments (domestic and international) for gallery operations, working closely with vendor network for estimate bidding and shipping requests for client and artist shipments.

  • Manage and track incoming and outgoing inventory for on-site and off-site storage daily.

  • Oversee documentation, insurance, and logistics for incoming and outgoing loans for domestic and international exhibitions.

  • Oversee and input all ArtBase data related to gallery inventory and archive, specifically artwork details, location, condition, framing and production costs; ability to analyze storage-related data and run reports for multiple departments.

  • Maintain consistent procedures for the inputting of condition reporting, cataloguing, and tracking of artworks across multiple locations, including on and off-site storage, artist studios, museums, and art fairs.

  • Manage and record condition reporting, alert directors of condition issues and coordinate framing and conservation as needed.

  • Maintain hard copy files of all loans and consignments in registrars’ office

  • Work closely with preparators and provide guidance and direction as needed.

Requirements
  • Advanced degree in collections management, museum studies, or related field preferred

  • Minimum two years art gallery experience in registration capacity

  • Minimum one year experience with ArtBase and Mac

  • Working knowledge of Artnet, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Acrobat Pro

  • Exceptional multi-tasking skills while maintaining highest degree of accuracy and efficiency

  • Experience with art handling all mediums, knowledge of packing materials, and fine art storage

  • Exceptional planning, organizing and execution of both immediate needs and long-term projects

  • Capable of working independently as well as with a team

  • Capable of taking constructive criticism

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Compensation:

This is full-time, nonexempt position. Salary range of $70,000 - $90,000 per year, depending on experience, including a comprehensive benefits package.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:

  • Sedentary work that requires primarily sitting and standing.

Work Environment:

  • Typically, indoors in an office type environment

  • Some offsite travel and/or errands

  • After hours and weekend work required as needed for exhibitions, art fairs, and events
