Research Associate/Assistant to Director
New York
Venus Over Manhattan seeks a Research Associate/Assistant to Director to work alongside a small team in a fast-paced environment. Designed to support senior staff across a range of areas, this position encompasses responsibilities across the gallery’s functions.
Position is Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, with additional hours as needed for openings and gallery events. Salary commensurate with experience.

Writing
- Drafting press releases, art fair applications, artwork descriptions, and correspondence for senior staff
Research
- Gather relevant information with regard to artworks at the gallery; production of CVs + Biographies for artists relevant to gallery program; ability to present results of inquiry in quick and digestible fashion.
Design
- Drafting and editing sales materials using existing templates for senior staff. Assistance with design and production of gallery publications, as well as exhibition announcements, and social media assets.
Archiving
- Update and maintain CVs + biographies for artists relevant to gallery program; familiarity with DAM/asset management best practices for proper archiving of image and data files
Database Management
- Regular maintenance of gallery inventory systems; produce lists and reports from the database
Digital Media
- Frequent updating and management of digital assets across gallery’s platforms, including gallery website, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Familiarity with Google Analytics, and best practices for SEO a plus.
Book Sales
- Managing the purchase and sale of artist publications
Gallery Management
- General physical plant needs; packing and unpacking artworks; interfacing with art handling companies and related vendors as needed; order and stock office and gallery supplies as needed.
Exhibitions
- Assist senior staff in the production and installation of exhibitions at the gallery
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree with 2-3 years related work experience
Previous experience at a gallery, museum, auction house, or art advisory firm required
Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills across environments where discretion is necessary
Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom, and Acrobat
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word + Excel
Familiarity with Google Analytics and MailChimp preferred. Experience with Exhibit-E website backend a plus
Familiarity with database products including ArtLogic and ArtBase
Ability to properly pack and prepare small artworks for shipping
Wide and employable knowledge of modern and contemporary artists
