John Murray Productions is seeking experienced, part-time overhire Scenic Carpenters and Installers to join our team. Scenic Carpenters/Installers report to the Shop Foreman (or the on-site Supervisor) and are responsible for the day-to-day fabrication and installation of custom and stock scenic elements to specified company standards. Scenic Carpenters/Installers may be required to work with and/or teach Apprentices to develop the skills necessary for their development, and assist with on-site installations and strikes. Scenic Carpenters/Installers must be able to communicate effectively, and work well under specified time constraints. Overhire employees work as scheduled, occasionally travel, must be prompt, and professional in attitude and appearance.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Build, and/or install/strike, common scenic elements to company standards with, or without, supervision
Work safely while maintaining a safe and clean work environment
Operate power tools, ladders, and all equipment in a safe manner
Work from detailed build drawings
Assist in the safe and proper loading and unloading of trucks
Work in our shop and/or as crew for installations and strikes
Requirements
Required Skills:
Minimum of 1 year experience as a scenic carpenter
Skilled at joinery, measurement accuracy, layout, cutting, and sizing of materials
Strong time and task management skills
Ability to understand and interpret build drawings
Strength and stamina, a sense of balance, and the ability to occasionally work at heights
Self-motivation
Must have a CA class C driver’s license and proof of clean driving record
