The Senior Account Executive works in the fast-paced media relations department to support FITZ & CO’s network of international clients. Responsibilities include leading and managing large client accounts independently. The Senior Account Executive builds strong client relationships beyond the life of a single project by communicating clearly, managing expectations and delivering results. (S)he is an active participant in client and team meetings; and, manages high-profile events. The Senior Account Executive has supervisory responsibility for a team comprised of account executives, assistants, coordinators and interns. Additionally, the Senior Account Executive will support the President by formulating and executing distinct and effective new business proposals for the firm.

Responsibilities
  • Build effective and efficient teams by setting clear goals, assigning project work with reasonable deadlines; troubleshooting any challenges that arise, communicating regularly with direct reports, and managing accounts to profitability;

  • Gain the confidence of clients by thinking strategically about their challenges and demonstrating strong project management skills in the execution of account work;

  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to the press and other target constituencies;

  • Draft compelling messages and strategic pitches and reach out to the media to secure features, reviews and news stories in print, online and broadcast media outlets;

  • Conceptualize and oversee media events and press trips as needed;

  • Utilize email correspondence, phone calls and personal meetings to establish strong relationships to the media;

  • Create, edit and proofread substantive and accurate materials to be distributed to the media;

  • Respond in a timely and cordial manner to inbound media requests for materials and interviews;

  • Build relationships with writers, editors and producers who might cover our clients;

  • Maintain schedules for press and client meetings;

  • Prepare agendas and re-caps of client meetings;

  • Create weekly, monthly, and final activity and media reports for clients;

  • Update database and mailing lists of media and art world contacts;

  • Organize and maintain client documents, images and captions, and press materials on our server;

  • Read and track daily coverage of clients and related news stories in online and print periodicals;

  • Report press coverage links and clips to clients daily/weekly;

  • Oversee frequent e-mailings of press releases and other collateral material to the media;

  • Plan and execute media events on behalf of clients (including managing guest lists, RSVPs, onsite event management and coordinating photographers and media introductions);

  • Develop and implement crisis communications strategy in collaboration with the senior team;

  • Assess client expectations and satisfaction;

  • Identify opportunities to upsell FITZ services to clients who may need additional support;

  • Develop new business proposals to distinguish the firm from competitors and win business;

  • Track new business proposals and follow up with prospective clients through the contract phase;

  • Train and supervise account teams to think and act strategically so that clients are satified and projects are managed to profitability;

  • Provide meaningful and constructive feedback to direct reports as part of the annual performance reiew process;

  • Ensure that direct reports understand their career path—including strengths that contribute to the firm and growth areas that will help them to advance.

Requirements
  • B.A. degree

  • 5-7 years of experience in public relations, communications, and/or fine arts preferably in an agency or PR office of a museum or arts organization

  • Able to work independently and multi-task; pro-active and solution-oriented

  • Demonstrates leadership and professionalism to clients, colleagues and direct reports

  • Ambitious and hard-working

  • Existing relationships with writers, editors and producers who cover the arts

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Literacy in digital marketing and social media

  • Detail-oriented and fastidious about data entry and database management

  • Technical skills: Mac-savvy, MS Office Suite, Outlook, Cision

  • Experience with Photoshop, Salesforce and Harvest a plus

  • Experience with HTML templates and creating bulk email distributions

  • Fluency in foreign language a plus
