The Senior Sales Associate, Carnegie Museum of Art Gift Shop supports the Carnegie Museum of Art’s mission by enhancing the visitor experience through expert customer service and driving sales revenue to support museum programs. This position leads all store associates in greeting and engaging visitors in dialogue, providing them with information about products and services. Responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to selling, service, stock maintenance, receiving, display and physical inventory process. Duties will include store opening and closing functions, balancing cash drawer, and completing store deposits.

Varied schedule including holidays, weekends, and evenings.

Responsibilities

Drive sales and customer service through modeling behaviors and managing effective selling teams in concert with the Store Manager.

Performs supervisory duties on selling floor and provides leadership and direction to sales associates

Provides excellent customer service, familiarizing self and others with merchandise offerings and back stock to facilitate selling and service.

Proactively learns about exhibitions and events to communicate this information in the selling process.

Shares this knowledge with sales team. Skillfully resolves customer concerns in a courteous and gracious manner.

Opens and closes store and register, balances cash drawer and completes store deposit.

Maintains proper cash handling at all times.

Protects security of confidential monetary information (credit cards, balancing paperwork, etc.,).

Reviews restock report daily and fills in sales floor accordingly.

Assists Retail Store Manager in maintaining visual merchandising guidelines for stores. Displays merchandise in stores and trains store staff in displaying merchandise within established guidelines.

Plays a critical role in all aspects of inventory control.

Maintains store stock room areas in an orderly fashion. Verifies count and quality of merchandise deliveries to store.

Prices merchandise according to receiving documents. Participates in regular store inventories for all Carnegie Museum of Pittsburgh Stores.

Keeps store and workstation clean and orderly by cleaning and dusting daily.

Maintains bags, boxes, pens tissue and other related items in sales completion process.

Attends all scheduled meetings and training designated by supervisor and Museum.

Performs all functions of the Sales Associate Position.

Displays courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with the public. Projects the positive image and attitude of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh.

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Prefer minimum one year of experience in retail supervision, with emphasis on personnel motivation, visual merchandising, and customer service.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Must be friendly, outgoing and enjoy interacting with a diverse visitor base and work force.

Must be curious and self-motivated to develop knowledge of a wide range of products with the ability and desire to skillfully share this knowledge with visitors and co-workers.

Solid communication and organizational skills, good attention to detail.

Desire and ability to train, motivate and gain cooperation of a sales team.

Knowledge of procedures used in the operation of point-of-sale computer systems. Interest and appreciation of art, natural history or science recommended.

Computer point of sale, personal computer, calculator, fax machine, copier, and dolly for transporting merchandise.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Job involves walking and standing for long periods of time, the ability to lift boxes up to 30lbs, climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, and bending, working in tight enclosed spaces.

Mental and emotional stability necessary to deal with simultaneous demands.
