POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Senior Visitor Services Assistant will assist the Visitor Experience Manager (VEM) in the day-to-day operation of the visitor services desk including opening and closing of the museum lobby and supervising the Visitor Services Assistants. The Senior Visitor Services Assistant reports to the Visitor Experience Manager.

This is a part-time union-represented position subject to terms of the Museum’s agreement with Local 2110, UAW, and is eligible for the New Museum’s employee benefits programs. This position pays $21.75 per hour. Weekends and holidays required. Availability to work Thursdays 1:00pm-9:00pm, Fridays 10:30am-6:30pm and Sundays 10:30am-6:30pm. A varying shift availability of early and evening hours as needed when operation permits.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greets and welcomes visitors, providing outstanding professional, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and friendly service to museum visitors. Monitors and when necessary, assists with visitor flow.

  • Address and resolve visitor questions and feedback with professionalism and congeniality; including diffusing situations and escalating to management as needed.

  • Supervises visitor services associates ensuring professional and friendly customer service, assists with onboarding new VSAs.

  • Assists with the organization and cleaning of work areas including the visitor services desk, office, coat and bag storage area, and brochure storage areas.

  • Assists with check-in and admissions for public programming and special events.

  • Leads daily opening and closing procedures including cash counting and completing daily and weekly reports.

  • Ensures lobby areas are stocked, clean, and prepared to receive visitors prior to opening each day.

  • Implements sales promotions such as membership sale and public programs tickets.

  • Assists with admission and public program ticket reservations and rebookings.

  • Assists in enforcing museum protocol with visitors and internal policies with the V.S. team.

  • Assists with coat-check and distributes audio tours / guides to visitors.

  • Sells memberships and provides member support.

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of museum exhibitions, programming, membership benefits, events and museum policies.

  • Assists in coordination of visitor traffic flow.

  • Provides some reception services for administrative staff.

  • Additional administrative duties as assigned by VEM relating to the operation of visitor services.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have excellent customer service experience and be eager to provide enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and friendly service to museum visitors. Superior interpersonal and customer service skills. A passion for contemporary art is highly desired, and fluency in a language other than English is a plus. Senior Visitor Services Assistants report to the Visitor Experience Manager.
