A renowned Artist’s studio, located in Huntington Park / Los Angeles, CA, is seeking a studio assistant to join its team.

The ideal applicant has a history and passion for art making and contemporary art. At the direction of the Principal Artist and Director of Production, the primary focus of this role will be to assist in the production of artworks.

Responsibilities

General Production - Art Making, Handling, and Studio Maintenance:

  • Assistance with the production and fabrication of Art. This mainly includes painting in acrylic on large flat surfaces, drawing in ink and pencil on paper, as well as digital preparation work

  • The work produced is highly detailed, and thus attention to detail and concentration for long periods of time is a must

  • Periodic assistance with cleaning, repairing, packing, moving and storage of paintings and drawings, and other artworks

  • Periodic assistance with studio visit preparation

  • Help to maintain general cleanliness and organization of the studio spaces, and perform end of day cleaning of their project areas

  • Commitment to all studio policies and procedures

  • We are also interested in 3D rendering and digital imaging skills, although not necessarily required

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to push, pull, bend, stoop, squat, turn from front to back, turn from side to side, reach above shoulder level, and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to sit, stand, and assume a variety of positions for extended periods of time

  • Must be able to work in a studio environment with cement floors

Position Details:

  • This position is 30 hours a week

  • Reports directly to Director of Production

  • Studio hours of operations are Monday-Friday, 9:00am-7:00pm

  • Hourly rate commensurate with experience, beginning at $25 an hour

Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • BFA or BA from an accredited college or 2-3 years experience working in production for a multi-disciplinary visual artist

  • Technical skills in painting and drawing

  • Technical skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or 3D Rendering software (Sketchup, Rhino, Zbrush, for example) are a plus

  • Must work well within a diverse team environment.

  • Positive, can-do attitude

  • Solutions-oriented thinking; ability to problem-solve and work well in a deadline-driven environment

  • Willingness and ability to learn new procedures and techniques

  • Willingness and ability to carefully listen and follow instructions, as well as work independently
