How to Apply

Send a résumé, a brief cover letter (one page is plenty) telling us why this role and NIAD interest you, and a

short writing sample to info@niadart.org with the subject line “Studio Coordinator – Your name.” We accept

applications in written, audio, or video form.

About the writing sample

Writing and editing are a meaningful part of this job, including artist biographies and statements, project

descriptions, documentation, and application materials. We ask for a sample because this is an important

part of the work that a résumé cannot show.

Please send one to two pages of something you have already written that demonstrates your ability

to write clearly about a person, creative practice, project, or idea.

  • an artist biography or statement you drafted;

  • exhibition or grant text;

  • a profile or interview-based piece;

  • a project description; or

  • writing from another field where you had to capture someone else’s perspective or explain something

clearly.

An excerpt from a longer piece is fine. If the piece was written for an employer or client, please remove

confidential information and make sure you are permitted to share it.

If you do not have an existing sample like this, write up to half a page about a work of art, an object,

a creative practice, or a person you find interesting.

We are not looking for specialized art-historical language or a particular writing style. We are interested in

how you pay attention, listen, organize information, and communicate clearly while respecting someone

else’s voice.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. For full consideration, apply by 10/30/2026.

Our hiring process typically includes a 20–30 minute screening call, an interview with the hiring team, a paid

working session in the Studio for finalists, and reference checks.

Any additional writing or project work requested of finalists will be completed as part of the paid working

session; NIAD does not ask candidates to produce substantial new work without compensation.

Please email rather than call with routine questions so that we can respond consistently to all applicants. If

email is not accessible to you, call 510-620-0290 and ask for the hiring contact.
