Kevin Beasley Studio is seeking a fully committed, highly professional, self-motivated, and detail-oriented New York-based individual to work full-time (5 days per week) as a Studio Manager.
The candidate will work closely with the artist on a wide variety of projects and is responsible for overseeing all studio activities. The candidate will be committed long-term to the overall success of the studio and the needs of the artist. A well-suited candidate will be a strong communicator (both written and verbal), capable of working in a fast-paced environment, proactive, self-starter, punctual, organized, will work well individually and with a team, and can manage multiple projects at once with both long and short-term deadlines. The candidate should be cordial, discreet, articulate, and professional. The candidate should have a familiarity with the artist Kevin Beasley’s practice and have an extensive knowledge of contemporary art.
This position is paid hourly with benefits starting at $40/hour. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Duties include (but not limited to):
Manage and oversee all aspects of studio administration:
Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure productivity and organization
Designate and track schedules for exhibitions, production deadlines and travel itineraries
Monitor budgets and studio costs
Facilitate accounting operations including invoicing, tracking payments/honorariums
Upkeep database and organizational systems, including digital and physical archives
Maintain studio supplies/stock to keep productivity fluid and at its highest capacity
Maintain all common areas within the studio, including establishing needs and repairs, and overseeing upgrades/maintenance
Manage and oversee all staff including (but not limited to): determine daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals/tasks for studio team; initiate protocols for a clean working environment; ensure that tasks are being completed from A to Z; facilitate hiring, training and human resources needs; upkeep health and safety regulations
Evaluate and improve operations on a consistent basis, identifying and advancing the shifting needs of the studio
Supervise on-site and off-site storage facilities, including the studio’s inventory of artworks and equipment
Facilitate communication in-house and externally:
Point of contact between the studio and representing galleries on all exhibition related tasks, commercial and institutional
Liaise with representing galleries in New York and Los Angeles on all logistics, including weekly meetings
Dialogue with vendors, curators, writers on a need-be basis; field general inquiries
As outlined above, delegator of daily and weekly tasks to studio assistant team and freelancers to achieve consistency and efficiency
In consultation and collaboration with representing galleries, facilitate and communicate the artist’s interests and wishes for all press and publication requests, image reproductions, studio visits, exhibition queries, lectures/talks/crits
Co-lead on project-based duties:
Project Manager on upcoming studio move (to a location in the area); organize timetables and overall plan of approach; supervise contractors, electricians and various technicians; identify needs for services and schedule/budget action items
Point of contact in the studio on all special projects and commissions including New Orleans-based property and ongoing installation
Logistics coordinator on sound-based works, installations and performances in collaboration with galleries
Requirements:
Degree in Art Administration, Art History, Studio Art OR equivalent work experience.
Substantial experience working in an artist’s studio or art-based administrative role.
Excellent administrative skills, extremely organized and detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
The candidate should be self-motivated, capable of working independently and proactively to solve problems at hand.
An interest in contemporary art, art production and a familiarity with various studio practices are necessary.
An ideal candidate will have experience and familiarity working with sculptural materials and processes.
Knowledge in sound, video, and multimedia highly preferred as this is central to the artist’s practice.
Knowledge of PC and Mac platforms, Microsoft Office, and Photoshop required; Premiere, InDesign, Illustrator, photography, videography, sound editing, and digital inkjet printing are a plus.
