Modern Art Conservation, a busy art conservation studio located in Chelsea, NY is seeking a Studio/Project Manager with experience in modern and contemporary art. This candidate will be the first point of contact for clients and the role requires multitasking, attention to detail, and discretion. Candidates must be vaccinated.

The studio hours are weekdays from 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM full time and in-person.

Title and salary is commensurate with experience; benefits are provided.

Salary range: $45,000 - $65,000

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining detailed artwork inventory databases, calendar, and file system

  • Liaising with clients and vendors via phone and email

  • Managing dozens of concurrent, deadline-driven in-studio and on-site projects through initial inquiry to final invoicing

  • Supporting conservators in logistics and record-keeping

  • Preparing conservator materials for in-studio and on-site projects

  • Coordinating artwork shipments and packing

  • Leading weekly project meetings

  • Researching artists and materials

  • Preparing treatment and condition report templates and editing

  • Studio management including keeping materials in stock and general maintenance

  • Managing financial transactions in QuickBooks and art databases

  • Preparing invoices and working with Director and team on pricing

  • Managing some HR responsibilities

  • Organizing operations concerns including security systems, Internet, and phone providers, etc.

  • Maintaining website

  • Planning studio events

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field such as art history, studio art, or arts administration

  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of modern and contemporary art

  • Two years professional experience in a gallery, art institution, auction house, or artist studio setting preferred

  • Ability to interact with clients, vendors, and staff in a clear, professional, and timely manner

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, professional environment

  • Exceptionally organized, detailed, analytical, punctual, and a natural problem solver

  • Pleasant demeanor, positive attitude, team-oriented, self-motivated, discreet

  • High working knowledge of Mac computers

  • Efficient in QuickBooks, FileMaker Pro, Airtable, and Google Suite

  • Basic knowledge of conservation and/or art-handling practices a plus
