Massachusetts College of Art and Design is seeking candidates for full-time, tenure-track and/or permanent part-time faculty positions at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor, in the Photography Department beginning fall of 2020.
The MassArt Photography Department focuses on the medium as a means of artistic expression in teaching undergraduate, graduate, and post-baccalaureate students. Our emphasis is on personal vision, experimentation, and an understanding of the history of photography and the body of criticism that surrounds it. Students are introduced to a wide variety of necessary tools and become well-versed in the medium’s technical and aesthetic traditions, as well as in the contemporary directions of photography. Our curriculum covers analog and digital production, providing a strong foundation for a career in photographic arts. We are seeking new faculty who will add to the range of our curriculum and who are committed to teaching diverse concepts and techniques as well as to the development of their own artistic work.
The ideal candidate will encourage innovative pedagogical approaches for engaging a diverse body of students while teaching them to think across multiple approaches to photography. We are searching for a colleague with demonstrated teaching/mentoring abilities who will help our students engage with critical discourse, cultural history, and/or creative and social issues. The successful applicant will also demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as a history of working with broadly diverse communities.
