Summary:

The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) seeks a Visitor Engagement and Retail Associate to assist with aspects of the visitor experience at the museum, including front door greeting, admission transactions, and processing retail transactions.

Important Details to Know:

  • Compensation: $16/hour

  • Shift/Hours: Wednesday – Sunday 10:00am – 5:30pm, Thursday 10:30am -7:30pm with occasional evening hours as needed.

  • Job Type: part-time/non-exempt

  • Location: Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, 7374 East Second Street, Scottsdale, Arizona 85251

Responsibilities

Here is what you will get to do:

  1. Open and close SMoCA admissions and Retail including cash drawer management and settling out reports.

  2. Provide a welcoming atmosphere for all guests, whether internal staff or external visitors by phone or in person, including resolving conflict in a professional and courteous manner, with a high level of sensitivity and attention to detail.

  3. Get in depth understanding on our current, upcoming and past exhibitions in order to be able to answer questions and solve issues that occur at Visitor Desk and with guests and staff.

  4. Provides support for SMoCA special events and programs outside of normal museum operating hours, as needed and assigned.

  5. Facilitate SMoCA retail point of sale with visitors.

  6. Provide retail support functions including floor restocking, back stockroom, straightening and cleaning, pulling online orders, installing creative displays of retail merchandise.

Requirements

Here is what you will need to be successful:

  1. Education: High school or equivalent

  2. Experience: One year of retail sales or customer service experience

  3. Attributes:

  • Must present a friendly, open, and approachable demeanor to positively impact customer service

  • Knowledge of and appreciation for contemporary art

  • Experience handling cash, check, and credit card transactions accurately and with integrity

  • Ability to add, subtract and calculate percentages

  • Ability to solve practical problems

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

  • Previous experience with POS and ticketing software preferred

  • Demonstrated interest or experience in the arts preferred

  1. Work Environment: SMoCA is a fast-paced and team-focused environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
