Visitor Services and Security Ambassador

The Visitor Experience & Security Ambassador will balance prioritizing safety and security of artwork, guests, and premises with creating a welcoming, engaging, and informative environment for guests, in fulfillment of OCMA’s mission to enrich the lives of a diverse and changing community through modern and contemporary art. Shifts for this part-time position are typically Thursday through Sunday, plus occasional special events. Applicants should be available through holiday seasons. OCMA prioritizes the health and safety of all staff and guests; at this time all employees are required to wear masks when in the building.
Schedule/Rate:
Regular availability required on at least some of the following days and hours:
Thursdays: 10:30am – 8:30pm
Fridays through Sundays: 10:30 am – 6:30pm
Thursday/Friday availability especially needed.
Occasional availability for special events required.
Availability through Holiday seasons required.
Starting pay $12.50 hour
Opportunities for raise available
Engage guests at the front desk: welcoming them; communicating gallery policies; and informing guests of events/programs
When appropriate, gracefully and professionally enforce museum and gallery policies with guests, in order to keep artwork and guests safe
Help enforce museum’s COVID-19 safety protocols, including self-certifying readiness to work before beginning each shift, assisting with extra cleaning protocols as assigned, wearing masks, and guiding guests in physical distancing and/or other safety practices during their visit as needed
Act as a professional presence at all times while on duty
Respond appropriately and calmly to emergency situations that may arise
Light administrative tasks
Duties require ability to stand and move around for long periods of time
Assist with turning exhibitions on and/or off
Experience and demonstrated skill in customer-facing positions
High comfort level with gracefully and professionally communicating and enforcing museum policies
Ability to work as part of a responsible team, balancing collaborative approach with independent initiative
Excellent communication skills
Interest in contemporary art and willingness to engage with guests when appropriate
Experience and/or background in art preferred
Familiarity with presentation technology, such as media players and digital programming display, is helpful but not required
