PART-TIME VISITOR SERVICES ASSISTANT

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Visitor Services Assistants (VSA) are part of the front-line staff of the Museum, providing a welcoming experience to museum visitors. VSAs are supervised by Senior Visitor Services Assistants and reports to the Visitor Experience Manager. This position is a union-represented position subject to terms of the Museum’s agreement with Local 2110, UAW, and is eligible for the New Museum’s employee benefits programs. This is a part-time position and pays $19.75 per hour.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greets and welcomes visitors, providing outstanding service for a smooth and friendly admission and check-in process. Monitors and when necessary, assists with visitor flow.

  • Sells tickets for exhibitions, lectures, films, and special programs.

  • Assists with coat-check and distributes audio tours / guides to visitors.

  • Sells memberships and provides member support.

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of museum exhibitions, programming, membership benefits, events, and museum policies.

  • Accurately and professionally responds to visitor inquiries in person, on the phone and via email.

  • Informs visitors of museum policies, and safety protocols.

  • Restocks exhibition and museum brochures throughout the museum and throughout the day.

  • Assists with the organization and cleaning of work areas including the visitor services desk, office, coat and bag storage area, and brochure storage areas.

  • Provides some reception services for administrative staff.

  • Assists with check-in and admissions for public programming and special events.

  • Other duties as assigned relating to the operations of visitor services.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have excellent customer service experience and be eager to provide professional, welcoming, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and friendly service to museum visitors. Familiarity and comfort with computers and technology is essential. A passion for contemporary art is highly desired, and fluency in a foreign language is a plus. Visitor Services Assistants report to the Visitor Experience Manager.

Weekends and holidays required. A varying shift availability of early and evening hours are often required.
