The Toledo Museum of Art is seeking an experienced Curator of European Art to advance an iconic area of the Museum’s collection. The Museum is strongly committed to a curatorial program that blends scholarship and connoisseurship with equity and inclusion in paradigm-shifting ways.
The endowed position of William Hutton Curator of European Art will cover a period from the early Renaissance through Post-Impressionism. Additionally, this position will be expected to work collaboratively within and across departments to support ambitious exhibitions and innovative gallery presentations, including encounters between historic material and modern and contemporary works.
TMA’s collection of masterworks in this field span paintings from Piero di Cosimo to El Greco, Gossart to Rubens, and Fragonard to Gainsborough (among many others); significant holdings in works on paper including examples by Dürer, Rembrandt and Goya; and distinguished sculpture and decorative arts collections. The ideal candidate should have an expertise in painting and sculpture as well as a willingness to engage with European art across media. Future staffing plans for the department include the possibility of an additional assistant or associate curator of European Art.
Salary: $56,000.00 - $84,000.00 (Yearly Salary)
