SculptureCenter seeks a Writer and Content Editor to develop, edit, refine, and maintain all public-facing institutional content and communications.
This position is a crucial component of SculptureCenter’s communications initiatives. The ideal candidate will have an interest in global contemporary art with a strong working knowledge of contemporary artists, institutions and discourses, and a good sense of SculptureCenter’s program, position, and visibility within the field. They will be a strong, fluid, and attentive writer, capable of shifting style, tone, and timing depending on context, with previous experience in a museum, artist studio, or commercial gallery, or, alternatively, in publishing or press contexts.
This position reports to the Deputy Director and works collaboratively with the Curatorial Department, Development Department, and other SculptureCenter Staff as needed.
This is a 30 hour/week, non-exempt position with an annual salary of $40,000. There is potential additional hours scheduled in advance of busier periods.

Writing, Editing, and Institutional Messaging
Under the direction of the Curatorial Department, write, edit, and/or maintain press release texts, gallery texts, and other exhibition- and program-related texts
Support Curatorial Department writing and editing generally
Support catalog/publication development and production
Under the direction of the Deputy Director, produce press kits (press releases, images, captions, etc.) for external distribution
Track, produce, and maintain press clippings on an ongoing basis
Support press outreach and communications generally
Contribute to the development and implementation of SculptureCenter’s larger institutional messaging and positioning within the field
Support the Development Department in drafting and/or editing copy for opening receptions, fundraising events, and other special events and fundraising initiatives
Additional writing, line editing, and copyediting as needed for various public-facing communications, development needs, etc., ensuring consistency of voice and style
Digital Communications
Write, edit, refine, and/or maintain SculptureCenter’s website content, ensuring consistency of voice and style across all platforms
Ensure that SculptureCenter’s website is current and accurate
Populate SculptureCenter’s content calendar, generating social media posts and other digital communications in a timely and thoughtful manner
Write and implement SculptureCenter’s communications via email newsletter and social media channels, ensuring that all announcements and posts are tonally appropriate, timely, compelling, and approved by relevant Department leads
3+ years of experience in a comparable role at a gallery, museum, other arts organization, or in a public relations context
Bachelor’s degree (or other academic background in art history, visual arts, writing/literature or another relevant field) is preferred
Excellent written communication and editing skills
Proactive, creative, and interested in developing a new role at a dynamic contemporary arts organization with a global perspective and reach
Reliable, with strong organizational abilities, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, thinking across departmental and institutional needs
Excellent judgment and sensitivity while developing external messaging and representing SculptureCenter and its artists, exhibitions, and stakeholders
Strong visual sense with experience producing polished, external-facing materials
Ability to work well as part of a team, as well as independently
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop and InDesign or related programs; proficiency in website maintenance
