An artist studio based in Morris County (New Jersey) and NYC seeks a Collection Manager / Preparator. The Collection Manager / Preparator will shape and implement the strategy for proper care and storage of artworks within an artist’s studio, an oeuvre of over 2,000 works of art including paintings, drawings, sculptures, and installations. The Collection Manager / Preparator will be primarily based in Morris County, New Jersey.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of artwork details in the database, including the creation of records

  • Maintaining accurate records for all artworks; measuring and entering new details

  • Ensuring that all details are up-to-date and in line with physical inventory onsite and at storage

  • Care and maintenance of artworks; implement and uphold safe storage solutions for artworks

  • Coordinate conservation of damaged works

  • Provide support to packing, installation, de-installation, condition reports, wall repair, painting, and lighting of works within the studio exhibition spaces

  • Assist with movement of incoming/outgoing artworks, loading and offloading artworks from trucks

  • Organize and file incoming and outgoing forms, generate in-house condition reports and perform artwork inspections

  • Work closely with the Facilities Manager, Registrar, and the Archives

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, with a minimum of 3+ years of related experience working within the arts community; gallery or museum background preferred

  • Experience using proper handling of artwork

  • Familiarity with proper art storage and care

  • Organized and attentive to detail

  • Ability to work independently; to be a self-starter and highly motivated

  • Ability to prioritize tasks according to studio needs

  • Adaptive and willing to seek out assistance and learn new procedures

  • Familiarity with Filemaker Pro a plus

  • Ability to drive, and lift at least 40 lbs

  • Willingness to travel (NJ, NYC, and for occasional domestic and international travel for installation and de-installation)

  • Mon-Fri schedule; this is a position that may require travel and overtime hours

This is a full-time position with benefits including paid vacation, 401(k) plan, and health and travel insurance. Salary commensurate with experience.
