Jeffrey Deitch is recruiting an experienced full-time Chief Art Handler and Shipping/Installation Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Organize and manage exhibition installation and deinstallation schedule

  • Implement and oversee packing, installation, de-installation, condition reports, wall repair, and lighting of works within the gallery’s exhibition spaces and viewing rooms

  • A knowledge of proper handling of art works and antiquities using the appropriate materials and methods for packaging, loading and securing for safe transport

  • Ability to transport artworks domestically using verified art shipper

  • Installation experience of a wide range of art works in different environments

  • Liaise with staff, art handling companies, artist studios, fine art shippers, framers, and conservators for care and maintenance of artworks

  • Hire and manage freelance art handlers

  • Communicate with conservation, installation team, and Directors on condition issues

  • Ability to build crates on-site and pack works properly and safety

  • Maintain inventory of tools and packing materials

  • Coordinate and purchase supplies from outside vendors

  • Track expenses and costs

  • Familiarity with paperwork; Bills of Lading, Condition Reports, Inventory, Drivers Logs, etc.

  • General building maintenance

Requirements
  • Should have at least 3 years of experience in operations in an international commercial art gallery in a similar position

  • Strong, positive interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to work professionally and responsibly with clients and all areas within the business

  • Very proactive with excellent organizational skills

  • Ability to prioritize to meet strict deadlines with an adaptability to handle time sensitive and last minute scheduling

  • Excellent time and resource management skills with the ability to multi-task and work autonomously in a small team-based environment

  • Knowledge of Artbase a must

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Must be able to lift 70lbs

  • Ability to thrive in a busy environment

  • Ability to drive a Box Truck

Schedule:

The role requires availability Monday through Friday from 10AM to 6PM, with occasional late nights and weekends. The schedule may change to Tuesday through Saturday during the run of show. The position would start immediately.
