Hindman Auctioneers, one of the nation’s leading and fastest growing fine art auction houses, is looking to add a full-time Property Associate in the Chicago office. The primary focus of the Property Associate is to ensure all inventory is accounted for and that storage area meets Hindman’s high standards for cleanliness. The position also involves tagging dec lots appropriately prior to sale, assisting with preview set-ups & breakdowns, and assisting with development of the production schedule for decs and furniture.

Responsibilities

Assist with receiving and handling all incoming property received from consignors (includes fine furniture, fine art and other valuable objects)

Provide quality check of all property received and complete necessary damage reports

Help log and tag all incoming property and maintain inventory of all property located in the building by entering all information into the company’s computer database

Unpack/pack, handle and store property

Troubleshoot, track and trace missing property, communicate proactively with relevant department and property personnel

Contribute to dock and warehouse efficiency by keeping the dock area clean and organized

Assist the Photography Department with photo shoots

Assist the Property Department with the set up and breakdown of exhibitions for upcoming auction previews, e.g. by hanging art or moving furniture and display cases, and with the set up, breakdown and cleanup associated with company functions

Assist the Shipping Department with shipment preparations and packaging of outgoing property

Requirements

High school diploma or its equivalent; college degree a plus

One year or more of experience packing all types of property, from small objects to flat works, ideally in the art world

Work in gallery installations and in hanging various types of flat properties

Basic computer skills (MS Office: Outlook, MS Word, Excel)

Strong communication and time management capabilities

Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively

Ability to pack/unpack, lift, box and crate/uncrate property weighing up to 35 pounds

Use of dock equipment and tools (pallet jacks, crowbars, material- handling equipment)

Willingness to work long hours and weekends on as-needed basis
