Assistant To The Head Preparator


P.P.O.W is seeking a full-time assistant to the Head Preparator. A Bachelor’s degree is required, as well as prior experience working in an art gallery, museum, fine art shipper in preparation or storage management.

As this is an entry-level position, completion of a structured internship program would also be sufficient experience. Strong organizational and communication skills, a rigorous work ethic and a healthy team mentality are also required.

The position will involve packing works in all media for domestic and international shipment, as well as for short- and long-term storage onsite and off. Physical maintenance of multiple storage locations, as well as corresponding upkeep of our database, will be primary aspects of the position. The position entails safely handling all artworks in the gallery including assistance with exhibition and art fair installation, condition reports, and coordination of supplies directly with the Head Preparator. The position will also entail making local deliveries and pick- ups, consistent upkeep of the gallery’s public and private spaces, and providing general assistance to the Head Preparator on immediate and long-term projects. Successful applicants should also demonstrate enthusiasm for working directly with artists and studio staff to assist in archive management and planning for complex installations.


Job Duties:

  • Packing and unpacking artworks for outgoing loans and client shipments

  • Archiving and organizing shipping receipts and fulfillment records

  • Assisting with pickup from and drop-off to Gallery and artist’s studios

  • Assisting with installation of artwork for special client or curatorial viewings

  • Assisting with installation and de-installation of exhibitions

  • Assisting with art fair preparations and installations

  • Maintaining general upkeep of facilities physical appearance

  • Assisting with events preparation

  • Maintaining exhibition and events equipment

  • Assisting with storage management

# Additional requirements:

  • Must have valid driver’s license and experience driving cargo vans and large two-axel trucks.

  • Experience with database management.

  • Familiarity with best practices for art handling and installation, as well as knowledge of light carpentry.

  • Experience with fine art packing techniques in a range of media.
