Core Responsibilities & Typical Tasks:

• Perform hands-on lifting and manipulation of artworks and museum objects as needed for their transportation, packing, crating, installation, storage, and display

• Comprehend and implement museum-standard installation methods and professional art handling protocols

• As needed, gain experience acting as on-site contact for clients and office, developing client relationships, addressing job needs and directing crew

• Understand and follow detailed instructions and strict protocols while also utilizing critical thinking to solve scope changes, sometimes under pressurized time constraints

• Possess solid art handling skills and continually increase knowledge and experience in specialized skill designations such as: art installation, construction, art packing, crating, rigging, registration, and driving

• Possess solid knowledge of handling differing objects safely and understand the materials that make up the objects and how these materials may react with installation or packing materials

• Safely and competently drive large vans and continue to gain experience with box trucks, under-standing and abiding by company and DOT regulations

• Inspect vehicles and maintain safety standards, and inform office of safety or maintenance issues

• Maintain an orderly and well supplied truck

• Understand typical parties and agreements involved in the transportation, handling, and installation of artworks and museum objects

• Prioritize efficient and detailed communication and registration information transfer between company departments

• Effectively work as part of a team, contributing to cooperative problem solving, and appropriately escalate problems to leadership as needed

• Gain increased knowledge of, complete and maintain safety certificates for: forklift operator, scissor/boom lift operator, fall protection, scaffolding

• Other tasks as required by the job

Physical Demands:

• Regularly required to walk, stand, sit, bend, lift, and use hands, sometimes for extended periods of time

• Regularly work on boom-lifts, scissor lifts or ladders for long periods of time

• Regularly be in truck cab for extended periods and must exhibit physical agility to enter and exit trucks and/or trailers

• Exposed to outside weather conditions on a frequent basis

• Must be able to lift 60 pounds unassisted and must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 300lbs with assistance of mechanical equipment

• Regular use of mobile phone required for workflow

Qualifications:

• Minimum of two years of experience in art handling

• Possess a valid California driver’s license and a clean driving record at the time of, and for the duration of employment

• Complete and pass STA (Security Threat Assessment) application and verification

• Able to work a flexible schedule as weekend, overtime, overnight, out of town, and holiday work may be necessary

• Forklift operation and box-truck driving experience desired
