Reporting to the Art Handling Supervisor, the Technical Specialist is responsible for development and execution of jobs that fall within their specialty, training Art Handlers on the techniques of their field, engaging with their own professional development, along with performing the regular duties of an Art Handler. They will act as the default lead on jobs relating to their field and maintain a focus on quality, communication, further developing technical skills, researching, and developing new standard and practices. Responsibilities include the following areas:
Project execution:
Demonstrate expertise in subject matter and demonstrate high competency on relevant equipment and procedures.
Manage, maintain, and stock all equipment relevant to the position. Keep an inventory of all products required to complete jobs and reorder when necessary.
AIMS completion in and out of the field. Start, Enter Materials, Signatures, Unload/locate and End run.
Interact and be the source of communication between the client and crew.
Oversee crews in technical execution of work. Extend support, advice and art handling expertise to all Artech service lines as necessary.
Engage peers in a collaborative work environment to problem solve and develop innovative art handling solutions.
Create and effectively communicate execution plans for crew members, set priorities and keep crew aware of progress toward goal and total scope of work.
Manage job workflow including onsite organization, task delegation, and schedule.
Ensure the efficient use of resources.
Manage change control process; ensure that proposed change to scope is adequately defined, qualified and approved before implementation. Notify project managers when change occurs.
Installs artworks professionally in settings ranging from corporate to residential, including selection of proper hardware and exercise of aesthetic judgment as needed while adhering to Artech’s standards for art installation and quality control.
Performs other project duties as assigned.
Strictly adheres to all Artech and client non-disclosure agreements to maintain the utmost level of discretion and confidentiality.
Risk Management and Safety:
Maintain a clean and safe work environment; adhere to all Artech safety policies.
Manage crew safety; create, deliver, and comply with Job Safety Analysis forms and corrective actions, PPE identification and sourcing, and identifying any trainings or certifications necessary.
PPE compliance; remain up to date of regulation, and
Evaluate project requests to identify and mitigate risk.
Department Development:
Participate in training and mentorship with Field Lead and Art Handlers.
Assist in the development of new markets and service offers to expand the Art Handling Department.
Remain up to date on industry best practices and standards to ensure the safe handling of the artwork entrusted to Artech.
Invest time in personal ongoing education and skill development.
Present and enforce the highest level of standards.
Attend and make productive contributions to meetings, site visits and consultations with clients, vendors, industry partners and/or Artech staff.
Contribute informed feedback on crew capabilities and advise on staffing and training deficiencies.
Requirements for Technical Specialist:
Familiarity with contemporary museum practices and standards for art handling, transportation, and storage.
A minimum of three years Art Handling field work or equivalent experience.
The ability to work under pressure and manage a variety of simultaneous operations.
Basic computer skills using Word, Excel, Outlook and the Internet.
Demonstrated ability to take constructive criticism and lead a team.
Excellent customer service expertise.
Excellent employee relationship skills.
Documented rigging experience a plus.
TSA CCSF training and an STA number.
Clean driving record, experience with large box trucks is a plus.
Must be able to lift at least 75lbs.
Comfortably work on ladders and adhere to all safety policies.
Clean, tidy appearance.
Uncompromising discretion and professionalism.
Strict compliance with DOT commercial driver requirements (CDL not required).
Must be able to lift at least 75lbs.
