We seek an experienced, positive-thinking and organized individual to join our staff as an Art Handling Technician/Driver.

Primary Job Description:

The Art Handling Technician is responsible for the safe and professional handling, packing, transportation, and installation of art objects, antiques, high-end furniture, and other fragile materials. This role requires expertise in proper packaging, loading, and securing techniques to ensure safe transit between various locations. The technician will prepare shipments by packing, crating, and loading each piece in accordance with company standards and best practices. Additionally, this position includes the safe and responsible operation of company vehicles. The position reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure timely collection and delivery of items to and from clients and vendors.

  • Install and de-install artwork, antiques, and high-end furniture as requested.

  • Conduct site visits and perform on-site surveys for upcoming projects.

  • Follow daily schedules as assigned by the dispatch department.

  • Handle, pack, crate, and load artwork and objects in compliance with Gander & White standards.

  • Collaborate with Dispatch and Project Managers to meet deadlines and client requirements.

  • Accurately complete all paperwork, ensuring proper labeling of items, packages, and crates.

  • Generate detailed condition reports and photo documentation using company systems (e.g., Articheck).

  • Communicate any concerns regarding item condition, packing/crating orders, schedules, or deadlines to management.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment on-site and in company vehicles.

  • Uphold client confidentiality and protect personal property.

  • Operate company trucks safely, maintaining a clean driving record.

  • Complete daily driving logs and vehicle inspection reports as required.

  • Work with Warehouse staff as required.

Requirements
  • 2–4 years of experience as an art handler in a gallery, museum, or shipping environment.

  • Proficiency in wrapping and packing delicate artworks and high-end furniture.

  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of gallery and museum packing/crating techniques and installation methods.

  • Ability to work on trucks and in client-facing environments (galleries, museums, residences).

  • Physical strength and coordination; comfortable working on ladders and scaffolding.

  • Creativity, flexibility, problem-solving skills, and a strong work ethic.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
