Kohn Gallery seeks a skilled professional for the position of Art Preparator. Kohn Gallery operates at the highest level of excellence, including participation in year-round art fairs and exhibitions. The successful candidate will implement installations of exhibitions, maintain gallery facilities, manage gallery art storage and assist with the registrar duties.
Supervise onsite installation crews and temporary art handling staff.
Execute and/or manage construction of installations, exhibition furniture and displays, and all outside contractors while they are onsite.
Work under the direction of the gallery Directors on routine maintenance of gallery building (cleaning, light replacement, paint touch-up, etc.)
Work with the gallery staff on the scheduling, receipt, packing, art-handling, and crating.
Assist with registrar duties (including updating ArtBase, condition reports, shipping receipts as needed).
Responsible for the technical aspects of AV setups (including production, equipment and software purchasing, installation and planning.)
Research individual artist projects regarding execution and installation.
Maintain inventory of artworks, tools, and packing supplies.
Maintain clean and organized art storage.
Maintain facilities outside and inside (power wash, graffiti removal, skylight covering, scissor lift maintenance, hvac air filter replacement, sprinter van upkeep) and develop routine maintenance plans.
Carry out regular art handling duties for the gallery.
Occasional assistance with the coordination of, packing, handling, and installation of artwork from the gallery at off-site locations, including driving the gallery sprinter for deliveries and pick-ups.
Other duties as needed and required.
BFA/BA in Art, or a related field; previous experience in museum/gallery art handling, installations, and preparation; Required to lift 75 pounds, safely operate power tools, and operate gallery scissor lift; Must be detail oriented and be knowledgeable of up-to-date art handling and packing standards. Must be excellent at working independently, often in high pressure situations and under tight deadlines.
