Atelier FAS, LLC is seeking an eager and qualified Art Technician for a full time (4-5 days a week) position to lead a team of art handers in the successful completion of art services tasks including, but not limited to, art installation, transportation, art exhibition packing, crating, and storage warehouse registration and organization. The position of Art Technician is a coordinator position within the Art Handling Department at Atelier, which reports to a designated Project Manager and works closely with the Operations, Logistics and Client Services departments. The Art Technician role requires a candidate with a strong work ethic and the ability to adapt as we grow our business together.

Atelier FAS, LLC is a full-service fine art services company with locations in New York, Philadelphia and Delaware. Atelier works directly with major cultural institutions and prominent private collections as well as major national and international galleries. Atelier FAS has two museum-quality storage facilities on the East Coast, and employs staff in the areas of Client Services, Logistics, Operations, Art Handling, Registration, Fabrication, Storage and Security.

Pay rate is between $27.94 to $29.21 an hour

Responsibilities

General duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Oversees the management and team building of up to 4 Art Handlers (2 Senior Art Handlers and 2 Art Handlers)

  • Manages team performance upholding Atelier’s policies and standards

  • Conducts Art Handler reviews

  • Holds team members accountable for following policies and procedures

  • Responsible for the onboarding and ongoing training of new Art Handling staff members, ensuring that all staff are properly trained and prepared for onsite work

  • Responsible for the managing and coordination of projects with oversight from the Project Managers

  • Understands and manages assigned projects, directing his/her team, keeping the project on time and budget throughout the project.

  • Keeps lines of communication open between Art Handling staff and Client Services regarding project details

  • Attends meetings with operations team and Client Services team as needed to discuss upcoming projects (this may be scheduled before or after hours).

  • Perform site visits for upcoming jobs and projects

  • Reviews Atelier’s Calendar in preparation of the days/weeks/months ahead and to fully understand scheduled jobs and be able to direct Art Handler team appropriately.

  • Direct communication with client in-person and via email/phone

Acts as a conduit between Operations/Client Services and Art Handlers

  • Opening and Closing of Atelier’s shop, as needed

  • Oversees the assigned tools and truck(s) to Art Handling Team; relays relevant maintenance information for vehicles to Director of Logistics

  • Remain flexible for projects and available to meet with managers as needed

  • Helps to track inventory and request items for ordering in a timely manner

Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • BA or BFA with at least 2 years of relevant supervisory experience at an art handling company, or similar

  • 1 year of leadership or management experience

  • Has a clear understanding of tools and materials

  • Awareness of museum best practices and standards

  • The ability to work in a high-pressure environment while keeping a cool head

  • Dedication to the Atelier culture of excellence in art stewardship

Other requirements:

  • Physically capable of lifting objects weighing up to 80 pounds; physically capable of moving objects weighing up to 150 pounds; and physically capable of climbing ladders up to 20 feet and working on scaffolding and lifts of at least 30 feet; physically capable of using hand tools such as drills, hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches

  • Some computer use plus the ability to see and ascertain the condition of artworks as they are being handled

  • Telephone use, ability to hear instructions as an object is being handled and moved

  • Drivers license and experience driving 26ft box trucks is a plus (CDL not required.)
