PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Management of artists from gallery roster, including fostering and maintaining close relationships by advising and advocating for artists’ needs and best interests

• Liaise between artists, museums, and gallery staff for institutional exhibitions, acting as the main contact at the gallery for exhibition project coordination

• Communicate regularly with artists, offering support, gathering information, and reporting back to gallery staff on artwork production, fabrication, exhibitions, presentations, special events, applications, works at auction, and press requests

• Research, develop, and retain an in-depth knowledge of artists’ practices and biographies, communicating this knowledge to staff, clients, and visitors in an articulate, professional manner

• Manage artists’ production, exhibition, and fair schedules, and communicate these deadlines to the artists

• Coordinate artists’ gallery exhibitions and fair presentations

• Communicate details of new artwork inventory to gallery staff, supporting artists and the sales team in the presentation of new work

• Monitor the documentation of artists’ projects and, with the Archivist and Registrars, ensure records are updated

• Schedule studio visits, coordinate hospitality needs, organize artist meetings and travel

QUALIFICATIONS:

Our ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented and creative with exceptional organizational skills; an excellent verbal and written communicator; and possesses the ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. We seek candidates who are extremely self-motivated, responsible, and efficient, and who hold a sincere appreciation for and experience with navigating diverse cultural spaces. In addition:

• Knowledge of contemporary art required

• Professional experience at a contemporary art gallery strongly preferred; experience in a contemporary art museum setting welcomed

• Minimum (2) years of experience as an artist liaison assistant, sales assistant/associate, assistant/associate curator, or related administrative role strongly preferred; four (4) years of professional work experience welcomed

• Bachelor’s degree in art history or related field required; advanced degree preferred; consideration given to candidates with related work experience

• Highly detail-oriented, editorially minded, and precise, with exceptional organizational skills

• Enjoys project and people management; can complete tasks with persistence, patience, and discretion

• Project management experience in long-term exhibition-planning and/or fabrication, including scheduling, communication between multiple parties, and budgeting

• Adept at creative problem-solving, anticipating and resolving issues quickly

• Excellent verbal and written communicator

• Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

• Self-motivated, responsible, and efficient

• Skills in a Mac-based environment required, including: Google Suite (Gmail, Calendar, Sheets) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Skills in the Adobe Creative Suite preferred

• Basic knowledge of databases such as Artlogic (or similar) preferred

• Fluent in English; fluency in an additional language welcomed

• Preference is given to candidates with expert knowledge of global contemporary art, including art of the African Diaspora, Latin America, and Asia

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

• This is a full-time salaried position.

• The pay scale for this position is $65,000 – $85,000 annually.
