Gladstone Gallery seeks an Assistant to Director. This position reports to and provides support for a director who focuses on sales in addition to acting as an artist liaison on behalf of the gallery. This director travels a great deal, spending a large amount of time in Europe and Asia. Qualified applicants will have at least 2-years of experience working in a commercial gallery, auction house, or similar arts-related setting, as well as proficiency with art database systems such as Artbase and sales tools like Artbinder. Fluency in Mandarin is beneficial but not a requirement.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and has experience multi-tasking and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is an excellent writer, communicator and possesses an acute attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • assisting the director with administrative tasks, from making sure artists’ bibliographies, biographies, and the gallery website are all up-to-date to editing correspondence.

  • content creation and oversight of gallery WeChat account as well as writing descriptions of artwork for art fairs and sales packages.

  • assisting the director with sales offers, appraisals, and viewings, including installation logistics.

  • preparing and organizing artist information and inventory for art fairs.

  • coordinating exhibitions by organizing consignments and loans and by communicating with artists, framers, and museums.

  • assisting with planning, organizing and realizing exhibitions by gallery artists—within the gallery as well as outside institutions, including acting as a liaison with artists’ studios on behalf of the director and the gallery.

  • managing the director’s calendar, including events, openings, art fairs, etc.

  • organizing travel and accommodations, (hotels, flights, reservations, and itineraries).

Requirements

Position is Tuesday through Saturday from 9:30am - 6:00pm with additional hours as needed for opening events and work-related tasks for the director.
