Works in dialogue with the museum’s chief curator in the programming of exhibitions, both of the Jumex Collection and thematic group or individual exhibitions of relevant artists, as well as in the conception and execution of temporary public programs, such as performance, dance and theater, among others, which can be carried out in the museum or virtually through the Museo Jumex website and social networks.

She works based on the assignment of projects in collaboration with the curatorial team and autonomously; she proposes and carries out small to medium format projects. Likewise, and when necessary, collaborates with the chief curator or guest curators in the organization of exhibitions, including assistance in conducting research for the exhibition and publication of each project.

Responsibilities

The general responsibilities of the associate curator include the preparation of artwork lists, supervision of logistical aspects related to the exhibitions and the functions of the curatorial assistants who are collaborating on the projects he/she is working on. The Associate Curator will identify initiatives and exhibitions of interest to the museum such as traveling exhibitions, symposium guests, and actively collaborate in the conception of museum programming. Works closely with the Education department in the conception and implementation of public programs related to museum exhibitions. She generates content for the publications of the exhibitions she organizes and for the publications produced by the curatorial department, such as room texts, booklets, catalogs, as well as printed periodicals, the website and social networks. He/she reports to the chief curator.

Additional responsibilities of the Associate Curator include collaboration with institutional colleagues in the areas of Registration, Production and Communication; the development of programs, courses and lecture series, within the framework of exhibitions and public programs. He/she will also have the responsibility of being a spokesperson for the museum, according to the needs of the institution.

Requirements

Master’s or doctoral degree in art history or architectural history, curatorial studies or related disciplines. Minimum three years of experience in institutions and in the organization of own exhibitions or co-organized exhibitions with a curatorial team within an institution. Experience and interest in curatorial projects, artistic projects and online public programs. Track record of research and publications in the field of international contemporary art from 1960 onwards. Proven knowledge of professional museum practices, including curating exhibitions with works from a collection and with works on loan. Experience working with museum patrons, and fundraising activities and supervision of assistants. Public speaking and communication skills. Excellent writing, research and organizational skills. Highly institutional behavior, motivated by teamwork in a curatorial department, strict attention to detail and rigorous approach to the tasks at hand. Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, knowledge of database applications, plus Photoshop). Fluency in English, both written and spoken is a must, preferably also working knowledge of another language.
