PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Serve as an audiovisual specialist for exhibitions, installations, projects, and specific programs.

Be responsible for researching developing technologies and implementing technologies for all exhibition and project needs.

Support and manage the CMOA theatre

Assist in planning and managing the execution of technically complex and/or artistically demanding projects.

Create and maintain project documentation including schedule, budgets, labor plans, and schedules in museum’s project management system, Asana.

Work closely with Curatorial, Exhibitions, Conservation, Education, and other teams to understand exhibitions or programs, and recommend strategies for using media to present artwork within an exhibition, installation, or program.

Work closely with Facilities, Planning & Operations (FP&O), IT, Web and Marketing Managers, and various outside vendors to ensure the proper installation of works.

Supervises, coaches, and trains the Preparator, Lighting & A/V

Assists in onboarding, scheduling, and supervising any part-time A/V technicians as needed for installation or deinstallation and maintenance for exhibitions and programs.

Train staff in proper equipment use and procedures.

Supervise repairs, as well as any service contracts related to equipment.

Maintain and update organized equipment inventory.

Identify needs or gaps in equipment infrastructure.

Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, bachelor’s degree preferred.

5+ years working in A/V, 3+ years working at a museum, gallery, artist studio, or related field with proven expertise in A/V installation and time-based media art handling, at least 3 year of experience with increasingly higher level of responsibility, leadership, and team management.

Proven excellence in leadership, collaboration and showing creativity, aesthetic sensibility, ingenuity, and problem-solving.

Familiarity with architectural and design plans.

A valid Pennsylvania driver’s license is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Candidates must have a working knowledge of a wide variety of audiovisual hardware used for exhibitions (e.g. projectors, mounting hardware, Media Servers, BrightSign media players, amplifiers, speakers, HDBaseT transmitters and receivers, CRTs, and flatscreen monitors); and have proficiency in PC and Mac OS. Additional experience with networking, media servers, assistive listening systems, and modeling software is a plus.

Candidates must have knowledge of media arts history and technology, including various film, video, and sound formats.

Candidates mut be able to prioritize and compartmentalize duties, demonstrate the ability to work in a team and without close supervision, have excellent communication and time-management skills, experience organizing, leading, and managing staff, working with living artists, and collaborating with colleagues across departments.

Candidates must be able to communicate problems clearly to a supervisor and have the capacity to work quickly, precisely, and efficiently under deadlines.

Candidates with previous experience working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of attention to accuracy and detail is desired.

Candidates must have a willingness to be trained on and use OSHA approved safety equipment such as respirators and protective clothing, have flexibility to work a variable schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays, and have a commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to use specialized equipment, climb and work on ladders and hydraulic lifts for extended periods of time, intermittent walking, standing, and stooping, must have good dexterity, hand-eye coordination, be able to reach works of art above shoulder level, be able to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds); and to stand or to walk for an eight-hour workday.
