Ceramic Restoration Contractor

The Ceramic Restoration Contractor is responsible for executing technical repairs and surface refinishing on ceramic wares to meet the studio’s quality standards before they reach clients or collectors. This role involves hands-on restoration tasks such as epoxy repairs of cracks, chips, and glaze defects; precise paint touch-ups and faux finishing; color and finish matching; sanding; and dremeling. Contractors are expected to follow established protocols for safe materials handling and workspace maintenance and to complete restoration assignments with a high degree of precision and attention to detail. This position is project-based and works closely with the studio team to deliver consistent, professional results on all assigned projects. Materials and workspace are provided by the studio.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Perform restoration on ceramic works, including:

  • Epoxy repair of cracks, chips, and glaze defects

  • Paint touch-ups and faux-finishing using enamel and acrylic paints

  • Color and finish matching

  • Sanding and dremeling as needed

  • Application of product stamps (logo, signature, edition numbers)

  • Carry out restoration on works returned for QC touch-ups, cleaning, or repairs

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized personal work area

  • Safely handle, store, and dispose of materials in accordance with studio protocols

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with studio staff regarding restoration timelines and technical needs

  • Occasionally assist with the repair and finishing of fine artworks as assigned

Requirements

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to push, pull, bend, stoop, squat, turn from front to back, turn from side to side, reach above shoulder level, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to sit, stand, and assume a variety of positions for extended periods of time

  • Must be able to work for extended periods of time with clay products and lift, carry, walk on, manipulate with hands and feet, and perform a wide-variety of physically intensive techniques and procedures on a continuous and daily basis

  • Must be able to work in a studio environment with cement floors and within limited fabrication spaces when production activities are in full swing

Qualifications:

  • Strong technical skills in ceramic repair and finishing techniques

  • Exceptional attention to detail and manual dexterity

  • Ability to match colors and finishes with a high degree of accuracy

  • Experience using epoxy, paints, sanding tools, and related materials

  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines

  • Professionalism, reliability, and discretion in a collaborative studio environment

  • This is a contractor position; candidates are expected to provide services during studio hours (typically Mon–Fri, 9:00am–5:30pm) as scheduled or agreed upon

  • Temporary work assignment, schedule is determined on an as-needed basis every week

  • All work is to be performed on-site unless otherwise arranged
