The Fondation Beyeler is one of the internationally renowned and most visited museums in Switzerland. Located in an idyllic park in Riehen near Basel, Renzo Piano’s museum building is is considered one of the most beautiful art houses in Europe, as it harmoniously combines nature, architecture and art. art. The Fondation Beyeler is home to one of the world’s finest private collections and presents and continuously presents high-quality exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. In accordance with the the wishes of its founders, it is particularly committed to communicating art to the general public

public and to young people.

As of June 1, 2021 or by agreement, or a 2 year temporary position, we are looking for a:

Collection / Documentation Technician 60 % (m/f)

The position is based in and reports to the Restoration Department.

Responsibilities
  • Technical documentation of the collection works in written, image and database form

  • Monitoring and maintenance of the collection in the technical area

  • Preparation of packaging and installation manuals for all works in the collection and the permanent loans

  • Maintenance of the collection database MuseumPlus

  • Preparation and installation of collection presentations

  • Collaboration in setting up and dismantling collection presentations for complex installations

  • Technical recording and documentation / manuals for new acquisitions

  • Adaptation of works (framing, back protection, mounting, accessories, packaging)

  • Co-supervision of the art and empty crate depots

Requirements
  • Several years of experience in a similar function in the art field, with advantage also with new media and room installations

  • Knowledge and enjoyment of working with databases (MuseumPlus is an advantage) and documentation

  • Balanced interest in working directly on the object as well as in desk work

  • Craftsmanship with high qualitative demands

  • Interest in research and trends on new developments in art materials, in art transportation, and in art packaging and storage

  • Excellent organizational skills and the flexibility to respond constructively and positively to short-term challenges in a constructive and positive manner

  • Dexterity as well as a calm, focused, and very accurate work ethic both in the showrooms as well as at the PC

  • Good user knowledge of the common MS Office products as well as Photoshop and Illustrator

  • Good knowledge of English, with advantage also knowledge of French, especially technical technical terms
