The Peabody Essex Museum, one of the most dynamic art and culture museums in the country, is seeking a Collection Specialist to provide a wide range of services related to the documentation, imaging, access, care, relocation, and storage of the museum’s collection. Under the direction of the Director of the Collection Center, the successful candidate will work closely with several departments including Collection Management, Registration, and Conservation in coordinating activities related to museum objects in two locations.

Requirements

The Collection Specialist must have a minimum of three years experience in an art museum or gallery in collection management. Demonstrated object handling, packaging, and documentation skills are essential as well as the physical ability for collections handling. Familiarity with storage facilities is a plus.

We are looking for a candidate with strong administrative skills and the ability to participate and communicate effectively and collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Solid computer skills using Microsoft Office and Google Suite and collections data entry in MuseumPlus preferred. Digital imaging experience a plus.

A BA in Art History, Museum Studies or related program or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. The ability to lift 50 lbs is required. This is a grant-funded position for approximately one year with the possibility of an extension and is based in Rowley, MA with regular travel to Salem, MA.
