Overview:

The Communications and Development Associate supports all of Visions2030’s public outreach efforts, including email and digital communications, website copy, social media channels, photo and video documentation, community outreach, event communications, and press and media relations.

This is an independent contractor position that works in a hybrid manner (remote / occasionally in person) with our team to implement communications strategies that build new audiences and deepen engagement. This position works on a flexible schedule, and also involves participation in weekly meetings with Visions2030 core team. $4,000.00 monthly retainer, 20-25 hr per week commitment.

The ideal candidate for this position is a self-motivated, proactive individual with great time management skills and a go-getter attitude, who enjoys working collaboratively with a small team of professionals hailing from the art, tech, and social justice fields. This candidate cares deeply about social justice issues, is dedicated to equitable practices and aligned with our mission, vision, and organizational values.

Position involves participation in weekly check-in meetings with Visions2030 team on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11am–12:30pm ET as well as joining/leading additional working group meetings as needed.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all visual and written assets for email, digital, and print communications, including newsletter, social media posts, website copy, etc.

  • Draft caption for social media content, press releases, presentation decks, grant proposals, and other materials required for programs and development purposes

  • Create and disseminate email announcements for programs, open calls, development campaigns, and other organizational activity

  • Maintain social media and communications calendars; manage creation and dissemination of content on various platforms

  • Write and edit alt-text for all images to be used on online platforms

  • Conduct targeted outreach research

  • Actively engage in outreach efforts to increase visibility of organization’s content and platforms

  • Participate in strategy and discussions around website design and content development

  • Assist in coordinating development of project specific webpages and other online platforms

  • Coordinate photography, videography, and other visual assets; provide feedback and edits to vendors in a timely manner

  • Maintain and update contact details for grant portals

  • Understand big picture goals and needs, and translate them to smaller scale tasks to implement projects with accuracy and efficiency

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • 2–3 years of experience in communications or editorial support at a cultural organization, museum, gallery, educational institution, or other creative context

  • Understanding of nonprofit and mission-driven contexts; willingness to work with a small team and on many concurrent projects

  • Excellent organizational, writing, and open communication skills

  • Strong ability to develop clear and concise language for a diversity of audiences and stakeholders, both public and specialized

  • Attention to detail and ability to respond on a timely manner is a must

  • Comfort with multifaceted environment and can prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines and maintaining high quality of work

  • Maintain keen judgment and and discretion

  • Desire to collaborate with others and ability to engage with diverse people working toward common goals

  • Problem solver, creative thinker, quick learner, and team player

  • Have an understanding of the contemporary and media landscape

  • Experience in Google Suite, AirTable (or other CRM database), Mailchimp, and Adobe Suites
