COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR is a full-time, on-site role, based in San Francisco.

This role is also part of the team that develops and implements the gallery’s ambitious cross-disciplinary programs.

The Communications Director will be a front-facing, senior position who will be a key representative of the gallery at openings, galas, civic events and art fairs. National and international travel, attendance at evening events, and presence at the gallery on Saturdays is required.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute an integrated communications strategy that advances the gallery’s artists exhibitions, and reputation.

Coordinates communications across press, website, social media, publications, programing, and events.

Lead media relations.

Oversee website updates.

Relaunch and oversee gallery’s digital magazine.

Requirements
  • Proven track record in inventive content creation and exceptional writing/editing skills

  • A deep understanding of both art history and contemporary art/culture

  • 5+ years of experience in communications, public relations or editorial management (gallery/museum experience preferred)

  • Ability to manage a multi-channel editorial calendar and balance long-term strategy with daily digital updates

  • Strong leadership, communication and team management skills

  • Proficiency in digital tools for client management and social media

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, History, Arts Management, Art History, Fine Arts, Business or a related field

  • A highly refined aesthetic sensibility

  • Passion for art and the ability to communicate persuasively
