The Baltimore School for the Arts Foundation is seeking a Communications Manager. This is a year-round salaried position (32 hours per week). We’re looking for a strong writer and visual thinker to tell the school’s stories across multiple channels. The candidate must have a creative mindset, social media savvy, superior writing skills, and experience with content management platforms. PR experience is preferable but not mandatory.
The Baltimore School for the Arts (BSA), located in the historic Mt. Vernon district of Baltimore, is considered to be one of the top public arts high schools in the nation, and the BSA Foundation raises one-third of the school’s operating budget annually. The school offers pre-professional training in vocal and instrumental music, dance, theatre, film, and the visual arts in combination with a rigorous college-preparatory academic program to 440 students in grades nine through twelve. Students are selected through competitive auditions in the arts and study with a faculty of professional artists who live and work in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C., area. 98% of the school’s graduates are accepted into the nation’s leading colleges, conservatories, and universities. The school also has a vibrant presence in the community, offering a range of programs including TWIGS, a free after-school arts education program for 700 students in grades 2-8, free matinees, collaborations with other arts institutions in the city, and more.

Responsibilities to include:
In conjunction with School and Foundation Directors, help develop and execute marketing communications strategies to further BSA’s goals and initiatives and to promote the school both locally and nationally. Serve as staff for the Board’s Marketing Committee.
Manage the school’s social media presence and promote the school on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. We have a tremendous amount of high-impact source material, and we’re looking for someone skilled in visual content production to help us strengthen our reach. Are you a pro at taking arresting photos (even with your phone) or producing short, simple videos on iMovie? Prior experience with DSLR cameras and basic graphic design skills a plus.
Create and/or edit all of the school’s external communications and event promotions, including newsletters, emails, marketing materials, letters, flyers, invitations, and programs.
Support fundraising and recruitment efforts, as well as drive attendance to events.
Disseminate and publicize news to the BSA community to maintain a favorable public image for the school.
Manage relationships with photographers, graphic designers, and printers on publications, marketing pieces, and other materials, such as letterhead. Provide materials/ language/logos to outside partners and collaborators.
Manage the school’s website, digital fundraising tools, and other digital content in conjunction with Foundation Director and with web servers. Keep the website updated daily/weekly with fresh content including the events calendar, new stories, and links.
Salary range $50,000 to $60,000 – commensurate with experience. Generous vacation package included.
