Preservation Art seeks a qualified Senior Conservation Technician who will work under the Director of Collections & Conservation and will be responsible for working directly with the conservation team both in studio and at onsite locations. The right candidate will have experience utilizing best practices handling of artwork including; packing, storage, tracking, installation, deliveries, facility operations and other projects as needed. The Technician should possess strong communication, organizational skills and possess skills to work collaboratively in a high paced team oriented environment.
COMPENSATION: Starts at $32-$38 per hour, with full benefits
DURATION: 4 or 5 days/week
Studio Responsibilities:
Ensure the proper handling, unpacking/packing, delivery and installation of art objects.
Should be knowledgeable in all safe art handling practices and installation procedures and practices.
In collaboration with the Client Services team assist with the logistics of delivery services.
In collaboration with the Studio Technician assist the organization of art storage such as materials, managing tools, supplies and ensure the safety and ease of access.
As directed from the Client Services team, assist with the intake of clients’ artwork on a daily basis.
Assists with the organization and safety of artwork in storage including; labeling, location, movement, safety as well as ease of access.
Assists with organization and purchasing materials for the studio.
Assists with maintaining the fleet of vehicles and equipment, as directed.
Conservation Responsibilities:
As directed by the Outdoor Project Manager, assist with conservation tasks for the outdoor sculpture team.
Maintain supplies and equipment needed for conservation in (2) locations for the sculpture team
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts, Studio Arts, Design or similar field or commensurate work experience.
At least 5-7 years’ experience as a technician or in a similar position in a museum, gallery or arts organization.
Experience with art handling, deliveries, storage and packing.
Excellent communication skills with ability to identify problems and resolve quickly, and collaborative team working skills.
Working Conditions: Applicants must be comfortable with working in a team environment or independently. Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Physical Demands: This position will include moving objects, equipment and materials between sites. It requires an ability to stand, walk, move and remain active consistently and for lengthy periods. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching.
