The Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation is a private collection with an active national exhibition program. Adhering to the best art handling practices, we pack, transport, inventory and store artwork in a team environment to support approx. fifteen traveling exhibitions a year. Our new 33,000 square foot facility located in NW Portland features state-of the art environmental-control and security systems.

The Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation is currently seeking a full-time Art Handler / Warehouse Technician with expert art handling and organizational skills to join our team of art professionals.

Responsibilities

Works closely with Registrars and assist with art handling including:

Knowledge & ability to safely handle, wrap and move high value art of various sizes and mediums.

Build conservation housing as needed and re-house work in safe environments.

Dispose of shipping crates/packing after arrival and acclimatization.

Physically pull and organize art for exhibitions.

Assist Preparators on all jobs requiring multiple people:

Assist with crate building and framing for larger work.

Art transport for off-site framing and local installation.

Warehouse duties:

Ordering and stocking warehouse/shop/office supplies.

Primary forklift operator moving large crates and pallets of books.

Inspect warehouse for pests and coordinate with property manager.

Responsible for maintaining & monitoring climate control.

Point person for and knowledge of building security system.

Maintain clean and safe warehouse and shop:

Abide by all safety protocols when using machinery and maintain in operational order.

Ensure floors and work areas are clean of debris and clutter.

Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team to meet multiple deadlines.

Requirements

3 years’ experience in a museum, gallery or art shipping organization; demonstrated experience in art handling techniques and storage practices.

Demonstrated concern for detail, accuracy and precise execution of work; ability to quickly identify and resolve problems, ensuring projects stay on schedule.

Works well independently and in a team; excellent communication skills, both verbally and written.

Experienced operating warehouse equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.).

Valid OR license and willingness to deliver and install artwork on a moment’s notice.

Experience driving a cargo van and box truck.

Ability to lift 50 lbs.
