The Estorick Collection is Britain’s only museum dedicated to twentieth-century Italian Art. Based in a Georgian villa in Islington, London, it houses one of the finest collections of Futurist works outside Italy as well as figurative painting and sculpture from the 1890s to the 1950s.
The Collection is looking for an organised, flexible and literate Office Assistant, who will be expected to carry out a wide range of tasks. The post demands strong communication skills across all levels – from members of the public to curatorial staff, volunteers and outside contractors. Experience of working in a museum would be helpful but is not essential and secondary to office experience and administrative skills.

Part time including occasional weekends and evenings (22.5 hours per week, ideally split over 5 mornings)
Salary: ÂŁ12,700 per annum (ÂŁ21,166 full time equivalent)
Dealing with general correspondence and enquiries by phone and email in a timely and efficient manner; preparing correspondence and other documents; managing general enquiries email inboxes, checking the answerphone and updating the answerphone message as and when required
Updating and maintaining databases and keeping contacts up to date updating and maintaining mailing lists on Mailchimp; ensuring that all personal data held at the museum is legally compliant
Supporting the museum’s social media presence: creating content and assisting with the scheduling of posts
Assisting with email newsletters and updating the website
Managing the collection and delivery of mail of all types including trips to the Post Office: Sending out bulk mailings of leaflets from databases, organising leaflet & poster distribution by hand and post
Assisting with the administration of the membership scheme
Helping with organisation and logistics for museum events, both online and in-person as well as supervising and assisting at events such as exhibition openings, evening lectures and receptions.
Receiving and collating replies to event invitations
Organising and collating visitor survey data
Helping the Bookshop Manager with the gallery invigilation rota, recruiting and managing volunteers and work experience placements
Office management responsibilities, including maintenance of adequate levels of stationery and janitorial supplies, liaising with cleaners and refuse collections
Opening and closing the museum when required
Providing administrative support for all museum activities and carrying out such other duties as may be required by the Director
ESSENTIAL
Excellent communications skills both written and oral, polite and friendly when dealing with visitors to the museum
Ability to take initiative and work independently as well as within a team
An organised and flexible approach, willingness to get involved in all areas of the museum
Experience of office work and administration
Familiarity with social media and scheduling tools
Attention to detail
Strong IT skills
DESIRABLE
Experience of working in a museum or gallery
Experience of producing social media content in an art/museum context
Knowledge of/interest in art
