The Institute for Studies on Latin American Art (ISLAA), a research institute dedicated to expanding scholarship and public engagement with art from Latin America, is seeking a full-time exhibitions assistant to provide research, administrative, and logistical support for ISLAA’s growing exhibitions program.

The exhibitions assistant will report to the exhibition and curatorial manager and will play an integral role in all aspects of exhibition production, from conducting curatorial research to interfacing with members of the public. This position will also be responsible for overseeing the general maintenance of ISLAA’s exhibition space and ensuring the smooth operation of ISLAA’s office. Beyond the day-to-day requirements of this job, this role will offer exciting opportunities to develop and spearhead exhibition-related programming.

Inaugurated in 2019, ISLAA’s exhibitions program has provided a platform for new research and fresh perspectives on modern and contemporary art from Latin America. Organized by guest curators in collaboration with staff, ISLAA exhibitions present artwork and materials from ISLAA’s collection and Library and Archives and are accompanied by original booklets and public programs.

ISLAA seeks team members who reflect the diverse communities we engage with. Positions are filled without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, HIV/AIDS status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. All are encouraged to apply.

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE

The exhibitions assistant is a full-time position based at ISLAA’s headquarters in New York with a salary range of $50,000–$55,000. Health benefits and 401k are offered after three months of employment. This role will follow a Tuesday–Saturday schedule and will require occasionally working evenings during openings and events.
