The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the national museum of modern and contemporary art, is looking for an Exhibits Specialist (Generalist). As a part of the Smithsonian Institution, the Hirshhorn is a leading voice for contemporary art and culture and provides a

We enhance public understanding and appreciation of contemporary art through acquisitions, exhibitions, education and public programs, conservation, and research.
The primary responsibilities of this role include
working with and taking directions from curators, artists, exhibitions designers to establish a final layout of artworks in the galleries and grounds including site specific artworks and immersive whole room installations;
participating in exhibit installations and object handling, including fabricating exhibit components and/or
interactive prototypes;
- cleaning exhibition casework, vitrines, and components in galleries, and assisting with preparation of new lighting and working on routine maintenance of existing lighting in galleries.
You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position Specialized experience is defined as:
handling and/or installing modern and contemporary artwork;
fabricating exhibit components for exhibition installations;
cleaning exhibition casework and vitrines in galleries; and conducting routine maintenance on audio, visual, and interaction exhibition elements.
This is a full time, federal job based in Washington, DC, supporting the Museum’s Exhibits, Design, and Special Projects office.
