Downing Frames is a contemporary art framing studio specializing in the fabrication of handmade, museum-quality frames in NYC. We are looking to add a full-time experienced frame fitter who is a hardworking, detail-oriented team player. The ideal candidate works efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.

The applicant that we hire will have at least 5 years of framing experience and knowledge of archival hinging materials and techniques. You must be available for a Monday through Friday full-time job.

Responsibilities

Basic daily responsibilities include:

Fitting high-end art into custom frames

Art handling/packing art

Additional responsibilities include:

Cutting mat boards to size

Cutting Museum Glass

Cutting spacers / fillets

Making boxes for shipping art

Installing frame glazing and fillets

Requirements

Qualifications:

5+ years of on-the-job experience fitting high-end artwork

Ability to read and understand frame designs

Experience handling and packing art

Confident with hand-held power tools such as drills

Preference to experience with framing for extremely valuable art for high-end clients

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience cutting windows in 8 and 12 ply boards with Fletcher mat cutter

Experience stretching canvases

Understanding of mounting processes and materials

Understanding of different hinging techniques

Experience fitting acrylic boxes

Art conservation knowledge is a plus
