Artist’s studio looking to hire a fine arts registrar to assist with all elements of artwork cataloging, condition reporting and storage, physical and digital recordkeeping, shipping arrangements, consignments, and institutional loans.

Responsibilities
  1. Catalogue new artworks upon creation as well as uncatalogued historic bodies of work.

  2. Data entry into collections management system, including maintaining lists and exhibition records. Clean up historic data according to a standardized and consistent style. Coordinate with database developer on new features and functionality for rest of staff.

  3. Coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments including packing, crating, insurance coverage, proper documentation

  4. Manage the care and handling of artworks. Prepare condition reports. Coordinate necessary assessments and treatments with contract conservators. Oversee collections storage.

  5. Coordinate consignments to gallery representatives and individual loans to institutions: review requests and facility reports, get approvals from stakeholders, prepare contracts, oversee preparation

  6. Issue and track artwork-related work orders and purchase orders, liaise with vendors

  7. Track upcoming auction lots and enter results into database, provide reports, respond to cataloging inquiries from auction houses

  8. Maintain registration files, respond to research requests, provide content for website updates, proof catalogue captions

  9. Correspondence, various office duties, and other duties as assigned

Requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

5+ years of registration experience in an artist’s studio, art museum, or fine art gallery

Understanding of and demonstrated ability to work with collections management database systems

Compensation:

Commensurate with experience. Includes generous benefits.

Physical Environment:

Job is primarily desk and office based, requiring use of a computer in a Mac environment, though may occasionally require lifting up to 30 lbs and mobility throughout the office building. Travel not typically required, though occasional offsite work may be necessary. Ability to hold a valid driver’s license or have reliable transportation necessary. Relocation:

Job located in Los Angeles, Hollywood area. Compensation for interview travel and relocation expenses not provided.
