Timothy Taylor Gallery is looking for a full time motivated art technician to join our new gallery space in Tribeca. Qualified candidates should have art handling, storing and installation experience. This position will report directly to the Registrar/Gallery Manager.
Work will primarily take place in house during business hours, but offsite and traveling would be required for projects and art fairs.
Salary is commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits offered after 90-days of employment. This position is a full-time, permanent role, working Monday-Friday, 5 days per week from 10am - 6pm with occasional evenings for gallery openings
Responsibilities
Take responsibility for the safe handling, storage, installation and packing of a wide array of artworks.
Organize all aspects of shipments locally, domestically and internationally (packing, coordination and release/receipt of shipments, and installation, with knowledge of applicable tax/VAT protocols).
Work with Registrar on maintenance of all necessary paperwork and gallery database (Artlogic) to catalogue all artwork, log artwork movement, note financial & consignment terms, etc.
Generate condition reports.
Assist Registrar in coordinating all logistics for exhibitions, art fairs and sales.
Oversee handling of artwork and the installation of gallery and art fair presentations to
a deadline. You will take responsibility for the regular condition checking of all artwork, liaising with external contractors and maintaining clear and accurate records at all times.
Assist and lead setting up storage and packing room in new gallery space.
Maintain and order all packing supplies (with Registrar/Gallery Manager’s approval)
Take responsibility for the appearance and cleanliness of the gallery, viewing, and storage spaces
Proactively work with the team to flag and resolve gallery issues and uphold the gallery code of conduct.
The position will involve occasional travel to art fairs and exhibitions both within and outside the US.
Other duties as required.
Requirements
Minimum of 3-5 years’ similar professional experience in a gallery or similar, handling, installing and packing various types of objects and artwork.
Applicants must be self-motivated while being able to work within a team environment.
Must be detail-oriented with the ability to manage and maintain accurate paperwork and record-keeping for the projects executed.
Willing to deliver and collect works to/from various locations around New York City.
Experience interacting and working with clients in person; professional demeanor.
Strong familiarity with crating construction, packing strategies and techniques.
Strong technical skills in the safe use of hand and power tools.
Excellent communication and time management skills.
Excellent administrative and IT skills, model making (2D, 3D, CAD) and basic woodworking skills desirable. Knowledge of AV is a plus.
Ability to lift up to 70 lbs
Valid driver’s license.
Familiarity with modern and contemporary Art and various media and materials.
