We are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented problem-solver who is willing to go above and beyond. Applicants should be highly organized, able to prioritize and willing to undertake basic and complex tasks with equal diligence and enthusiasm, and should project a positive, pleasant demeanor, and enjoy working with the public as well as with co-workers.
Responsibilities include greeting visitors/clients and assisting them in the gallery, assisting the directors and registrar with a variety of projects, event organization, database entry and managing and updating the gallery contact list.
Administrative duties also include maintaining and organizing gallery supplies,
opening and closing the gallery, answering phones, managing the co-directors’ calendars and travel arrangements and being responsible for the day-to-day look and cleanliness of the gallery.
The Gallery Assistant will also be responsible for some correspondence with exhibiting artists including booking travel and ensuring that their time in the gallery is comfortable. This individual will also be responsible for scheduling third parties such as installers, photographers and interns. Art handling skills such as packing and wrapping for some storage and shipping is also a part of the position.
Responsibilities also include physical and digital image archive maintenance, coordinating press materials and responding to press inquiries as well as archiving gallery press, maintaining organization of the press and image archives, updating social media pages, updating the website and managing the email blasts for the gallery.
Applicants must be able to multi-task and work well within a fast-paced environment, as meeting multiple deadlines is the standard and not an exception.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as logic-based reasoning and the ability to think creatively are also a must. A thorough understanding of contemporary art is essential.
The Gallery Assistant will also work with designers and printers on advertising and promotional materials, organizing art fair materials and applications and inventory data entry. The ability to use the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is a must.
Prior gallery or museum experience is highly preferred.
