Gallery Assistant

Rena Bransten Gallery is seeking a full time (30-35 hours per week) Gallery Assistant for a multi-faceted position which requires the ability to work independently in an intimate work environment. Qualified candidates will display collaborative, flexible, creative thinking, and exceptional organizational skills. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday from 11AM to 5PM with occasional evenings and mornings required.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Managing aspects of the gallery’s online presence including our website CMS, posting and strategizing social media campaigns, updating online sales sites, and listing exhibitions on online arts sites

  • Writing and distributing regular email announcements through Mailchimp, writing and distributing exhibition press releases, & maintaining a comprehensive list of press contacts

  • Occasionally designing printed and digital materials for gallery exhibitions and art fair.

  • Keeping abreast of and promoting gallery artists’ exterior exhibitions, events, lectures, etc.

Secondary responsibilities include:

  • Fulfilling registrar tasks in coordination with the gallery directors

  • Interfacing with gallery vendors including art handlers, web and phone IT, etc.

  • Assisting in organizing gallery hosted events including exhibition receptions, gallery dinners, etc.

  • Performing gallery office managerial tasks

  • Front facing client relations

  • Assisting in managing incoming and outgoing loans and consignments

Requirements

Required qualifications:

  • In depth knowledge and passion for contemporary art and a familiarity with the art’s community of the San Francisco / Bay Area

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum two years’ experience working in an art gallery, arts institution and/or arts organization

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills

  • Experience in basic design; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite

  • Experienced in data management and website maintenance through

a CMS

Preferred qualifications:

  • Proficiency in managing a WordPress website

  • Experience with Art Systems database management

  • Experience with Mailchimp
