The Landing is seeking a new gallery assistant.

The ideal candidate is well-versed in 20th century postwar Californian art, architecture and design, is knowledgeable about both established and emerging contemporary artists, has a four-year degree with a major or minor in art history, art practice, or a related field, and has experience working or interning at a gallery, a museum, or an auction house. Supreme organizational abilities are paramount.

Responsibilities
  • walking visitors through the current exhibition

  • overseeing operations for the gallery

  • managing the shipping and receiving of works

  • managing the storage of works

  • record-keeping

  • sharing curatorial ideas

  • coordinating details for openings and dinners

  • answering phones

  • managing both online and paper filing systems

  • managing office equipment

  • managing and organizing materials

  • managing online databases

  • interfacing with represented artists

  • interfacing with clients

  • bringing in ideas for new contemporary artists to consider

  • interfacing with independent curators

  • managing museum loans

  • creating social media posts and eblasts

Requirements

This is a full-time position, most likely Tuesday-Saturday, with some nights and weekends as needed for openings, events, and fairs.

4-Year Degree

The Landing is a fine art gallery specializing in both historically significant 20th century postwar works—with an emphasis on those made in California— and works by contemporary artists. The Landing maintains a program of solo, two-person, and thematic group exhibitions at its 2800-square foot space on Jefferson Blvd. in Los Angeles, and represents a roster of both historical and living artists.
