Gallery Associate
Art Gallery
An internationally renowned contemporary art gallery has an opportunity for a full-time Gallery Associate position in its San Francisco location. The ideal candidate will be assisting in coordinating exhibitions and art fairs, producing press releases and newsletters, managing social media, maintaining website and other online databases, and overseeing all administrative
needs. Requirements include knowledge of art and the contemporary art market, experience in sales and administration, press outreach experience, and social media experience. Successful candidates will be personable, highly motivated, and have excellent verbal and written skills.
The Gallery Associate responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Manage day-to-day gallery operations and administration including acquisitions, sales,
research, scheduling, insurance, consignment contracts, auctions, art fairs, general building upkeep, etc.
- Manage start to finish execution of events at gallery, including regularly scheduled
exhibition changes/openings, gallery dinners, etc.
- Oversee art fair participation and logistics (submitting applications, adhering to
deadlines, ensuring appropriate bookings, booth planning and execution, and
representing gallery at said fairs)
Cultivate collector relationships and carry out sales
Prepare artwork presentation PDFs, contact spreadsheets, comprehensive press packets and daily cash reports
Assist with communications, including producing e-blasts, performing outreach to other art institutions and liaising with press
Oversee research and publication projects, continually coordinating with teams on both coasts
Provide gallery administrative support, including ordering supplies, organizing travel arrangements, and booking appointments
Maintain Artsy, Artlogic database and gallery website to reflect up-to-date exhibitions, press and artist information
B.A. or B.F.A from four-year college or university (arts-related field preferred), MFA or MA is a plus
Minimum 2 years sales experience at a fine art contemporary gallery
Minimum 2 years administrative experience at a fine art contemporary gallery
Knowledge of art history and trends in contemporary art
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Mailchimp, and art databases (Art Logic, Gallery Manager and any other equivalent)
Understanding of handling fine artworks
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
Detail-oriented, flexible, and able to work well under pressure
Ability to multi-task and prioritize
