Hashimoto Contemporary seeks an experienced gallery director to manage and lead our San Francisco location. This position requires a well rounded individual who can balance a multifaceted role comprising sales, client relations, artist management and event planning, while coordinating simultaneously with our New York City gallery location and our East Bay production and shipping facility. Candidates must be able to pivot between back-end administrative tasks and forward-facing client relations, we are looking for someone who is both organized and personable. A passion for the arts and a sense of humor is a must.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monthly exhibition coordination and management.

  • Maintaining artist relations and developing gallery artist careers.

  • Selling artwork both in-person at the SF gallery and at out-of-state art fairs.

  • Selling artwork online by pursuing sales leads, following up on inquiries, developing new clients, and maintaining existing collector relationships.

  • Maintaining the gallery website, database, and social media platforms.

  • Participating actively in the local art scene by regularly visiting artist studios, attending museum events, art fairs and other gallery openings.

This is a full time, salaried position with benefits including healthcare, a company retirement plan, paid time off and regular travel. Pay will be commensurate with experience.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Minimum four years of experience in the arts preferred.

  • Proficiency in ArtLogic, Artsy, Adobe Suite, Mac OS, Google Business Suite preferred.

  • This is a complex job with many moving parts, so excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary.

  • You will be working alongside other directors, while also managing an assistant of your own, so prior management experience is preferred.

  • Due to the contemporary nature of our programming a passion for, or familiarity with, the local art scene is a must.

  • We have a strong focus on social media and maintain an active online presence, so an understanding of social media best practices and an interest in staying ahead of upcoming trends is important.
