The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a Family Programs Amphitheater Coordinator to oversee summer performance programs presented adjacent to—and programmed in connection with—the interactive children’s and family destination, Noah’s Ark at the Skirball.
The Family Programs Amphitheater Coordinator is a member of the Education and Visitor Experience department and reports to the Manager of Family Programs.
This is an on-call position. From early July through mid-August 2020, the Family Programs Amphitheater Coordinator will work approximately 20 hours per/week. The schedule during this window will be 9:30 am–3:30 pm Saturdays and Sundays, 12:00 pm–4:00 pm on Wednesdays, and additional hours as assigned. During the rest of the year, the schedule includes weekdays, weekends, and possible holidays. Due to the variable nature of programming and attendance, candidates must have flexibility with respect to weekend day assignments.
Assist the Manager of Family Programs with coordination of all summer 2020 family performance programs presented in the Skirball’s outdoor amphitheater.
Oversee, operate, and house-manage all weekend amphitheater performance programs for the duration of the season. Many performances are participatory and involve audience interaction.
Set up and operate a small PA system consisting of two main speakers, two monitors, a Berhinger X32 digital console, digital stage box, and microphones. Performances are varied and include dance, storytelling, and musical acts (small bands, voice, and music playback). Knowledge of how to troubleshoot a sound system and operate a digital mixing console is required.
Act as liaison between the Skirball and performing artists or groups in advance of the performance day to ensure that all needs on the day of the performance itself are addressed and met.
Produce each performance, including creating signage, setting up sound equipment, greeting artists, working with visitors, and overseeing each performance to completion.
Represent the Skirball and its mission to the public in positive interactions with visitors.
Occasional support of other family programs and Noah’s Ark gallery facilitation as needed throughout the year.
Experience running digital live sound, including setting up speakers and minor stage elements, stage managing, and operating/troubleshooting sound equipment
Prior live audio experience required
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multisensory work environment
Ability to problem-solve independently as well as collaboratively with other staff
Ability to work directly with Skirball visitors of all ages and diverse backgrounds
