Aperture seeks an experienced Institutional Funding Officer (IFO) with sophisticated communication and research skills to build and implement the institutional funding strategy in support of Aperture programs and publications. The IFO will join as a key member of the development team during an exciting period of major growth and as we conduct a capital campaign. The IFO reports to the Director of Development and works closely with development and editorial staff, the Executive Director, and the Chief Financial Officer.

Responsibilities

The Institutional Funding Officer’s duties and responsibilities include:

  • Strategy: research and analysis of existing and new resources and opportunities to form a comprehensive plan and calendar for institutional funding

  • Proposals: craft and submit compelling correspondence, proposals, and reports to funders

  • Stewardship: act as the first point of contact for institutional donors, initiate and steward existing and new relationships

  • Management: oversee the work of a development associate and work scholar, who can assist the IFO in research, tracking and gathering needed data and materials, and maintaining files

Requirements

BA/BFA; a minimum of 4 years experience in institutional fundraising, grant writing, and research in a not-for-profit environment, preferably in the arts and culture sector; superior writing skills, with an ability to develop compelling communications to engage donors and prospects; a track record of securing foundation grants in the five-to-seven-figure range for publishing and/or cultural/arts institutions; strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams; outstanding organizational skills, including ability to plan, prioritize, and manage a varied workload to meet deadlines; experience recording and managing information in a fundraising database application (preferably Salesforce or Raiser’s Edge) and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); extensive experience working with budgets and other financial documents required for grant submissions; interest in art/cultural institutions desirable.
